Half Cut Solar Panel
With rising demand for high-efficiency and more powerful solar panels, Bluebird Solar decided to introduce Half-cut technology-based solar panels to its product portfolio. In half-cut technology, the solar panel is split into two halves to let the top and bottom portions operate as two separate panels, thus generating sufficient energy even if one half gets shaded. The traditional monocrystalline or Mono PERC solar panels have 60 to 72 solar cells, but in the case of half-cut solar panels, the cells are cut in two halves to increase the number of cells to 120 to 144 cells. Cutting the cells into half reduces resistive losses, thus increasing module efficiency and giving more wattage.

What are Half cut solar panels?
Half cut solar panels are a type of solar modules that has been designed to increase the efficiency and performance of solar power systems. They are constructed by taking a standard-sized solar panel and cutting it in half, creating two smaller modules that are then wired in series. The solar cells used to manufacture it are also cut into half to reduce resistive losses. They have better efficiency, high shade tolerance, high resistance to microcracks and they perform well in low light conditions. Half Cut Solar PV Modules are available in a range of sizes and configurations, making them suitable for a variety of applications. They can be used in both residential and commercial solar power systems, and are often chosen for their high efficiency and reliability.
How does half cut solar panel work?
The traditional solar panels such as monocrystalline or Mono PERC solar panels have 60 to 72 solar cells. However, in the case of Half-cut solar panels, the solar cells are cut into two halves, resulting in the increased number of cells from 120 to 144. By cutting the cell into half the current gets reduced to half and the length of the busbars also gets reduced to half. This leads to reduction in resistance, Thus reducing the power losses in connecting bus bars by half. This makes them more efficient than traditional solar panels and helps reduce the cost of installation. Multibusbars play an additional role in mitigating the impact of microcracks. Thus reducing the possibility of occurrence of hotspots. Use of rounded or cylindrical tabbing wires allows more light to reflect onto the solar cell surface thus improving the efficiency and performance of the solar panel.
How are Half-Cut Solar Panels better than other Conventional Solar Panels?
Half-cut solar panels are a relatively new technology in the solar industry that offer a number of advantages over traditional solar panels. These panels are designed to be split in half, allowing for greater efficiency and durability. Now by splitting the cells in half, each cell can operate at a higher voltage, which leads to higher overall efficiency. In addition, half-cut panels can also perform better in hot and humid conditions, which can be a major concern in certain parts of the world. Another benefit of half-cut solar panels is their increased durability. Since the cells are smaller, they are less likely to crack or break under stress, which can be a major issue for traditional solar panels. Dividing the solar panel into half has increased the shade tolerance of the module.
In addition, half-cut solar panels can also be a more cost-effective option for solar installations. Since they are more efficient, fewer panels may be required to generate the same amount of energy, which can lead to lower overall costs. And because they are more durable, they may also require less maintenance and replacement over time, further reducing costs.
Applications of Half-Cut Solar Panels
The Half cut solar panel technology is beneficial for those living in areas with high shading, as it is common for the panels to become shaded due to the presence of trees or buildings. The Half cut solar panels allow for the unshaded portion to continue generating power, even if the other half is not exposed to direct sunlight. This capability enables Half-cut solar panels to provide a reliable source of energy even in challenging conditions, ensuring that households or businesses have access to uninterrupted energy supply. This makes it a perfect option for residential , commercial solar rooftop projects. It is also gaining popularity among EPC players for large scale rooftop solar projects.
Half Cut Solar Panel Price in India
In terms of price, Half Cut Solar PV Modules are generally more expensive than traditional solar panels, but they are also more efficient and therefore may provide a better return on investment over time. Half cut solar panel prices vary drastically between different manufacturers and models and it can be hard to keep track of the current market prices. Half cut solar PV modules are more advanced technology than conventional PV modules, So Half cut solar panel price can vary depending on several factors, like the size of the panel, the manufacturer and the brand.
